Open Office
I think the concept of Open Office Software is great, because EVERYONE, who uses it, has a chance offer improvements to the software. Open Office is avilible in most languages and works with all major computers. One advantage of a universal free software is that a teacher can have the students all use the same program no matter what coomputer the student owns. The teacher can also create learning aids for students, in Open Office Software, and not have to worry if the studnets can open the file due to software issuses

You have made a great point about open source softwares. Indeed, these application help teachers overcome the challenges of having to ensure that their machines can access these particular programs. i personally like the open source because bein in the library industry, funding is minimal and therefore i am able to access most of these applications without having to wait for funds allocations which takes forever at times.
ReplyDeleteI do like open source too but lately I've noticed that a lot of the very nice plug-ins, they were once free, are now free anymore. Granted they're affordable as an individual piece they do add up if you want more than one.
ReplyDeleteThat's interesting that they are starting to charge for the plug-ins.
